The research I perform is in the area of functional ecology, which consists in identifying which process, activity or function each species plays and how these individual contributions help the ecosystem function as a whole. In this approach, the physiological, anatomical and life history characteristics of the species are emphasized. I am currently working with species of rare, threatened or endangered succulent plants that grow in San Luis Potosí, mainly cacti and cycads, since they are species with very specific environmental requirements and little studied with this approach, very little is known about their relevance in the ecosystems they inhabit. Also, I am collaborating in research on the effects of potentially toxic elements in plants in arid and semi-arid zones, basically in their physiology and anatomy, in order to determine their tolerance or adaptation to these elements and therefore if they can be used for phytoremediation.
