gci@uaslp.mxIn our laboratory we study the structure-function relationship in P-type ATPases
(H -, Na ,K , and Ca2 -ATPases). We are also focused in the stabilization of proteins (enzymes)
under denaturing conditions such as heat, dehydration (lyophilization), oxidative stress
and by chemical compounds. We usually perform in the lab protein engineering,
purification of native and recombinant proteins. As biophysicists, we study the
effect of the rheology of the aqueous medium on enzymatic activity applying Kramers´ theory,
we perform also the analysis of structural dynamics in proteins using spectrophotometric
techniques (fluorescence and dichroism circular). We study also the chemical modification
of proteins and their effect on stability and activity. The determination of stabilizing
mechanism of enzymes by trehalose and other compatible solutes is also a matter of study
in our laboratory.
