gci@uaslp.mxI am a Chemical Engineer graduated from the B.
Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico) and I obtained a Master's Degree in Chemical
Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa Campus (Mexico).
In 2002, I completed my PhD in physicochemistry of the environment at the Henri
Poincaré University of Nancy (France), performing the parietal characterization
of endo-mycorrhiza fungi and studying the physicochemical processes involved in
the removal of copper and cadmium from symbiotic systems using plants with a
scientific focus on the development of phytoremediation processes. My current
research interests are bioremediation of soils, sediments and water
contaminated by arsenic and toxic metals, using an approach of sulfate-reducing
biological processes. Through collaborations within the Institute of Metallurgy
I have studied biological processes to remove inorganic species of arsenic and
lead, as well as cyanide biodegradation. I am also interested in the
physicochemical and biological mechanisms associated to dispersion of inorganic
toxic elements to stablish the impact of mining activities on several
environmental matrices (soils, sediments, biota and resources of surficial
water and groundwater) through biological, physicochemical and mineralogical characterizations.
