The aim of my research laboratory is to study the functional and structural bases of plasma membrane ionic channels. These transmembrane proteins allow the flux of ions (Ca2 , Na , K or Cl-), which are involved in important physiological processes such as electrical excitability, hormones and neurotransmitters release, excitation-contraction coupling, and gene expression regulation. The ion channels activity is modulated by interactions with other membrane proteins or lipids, or by external and intracellular signaling molecules. Our main objective is to identify and characterize the molecular elements and mechanisms involved in both the basal activity and the modulation of ions channels. To this end, we use different experimental approaches, including cell isolation and culture, biochemical and molecular biology techniques, and patch clamp recording technique.
