I work, in collaboration with the members of the Academic Body of Environmental Toxicology, in contaminated sites and in marginalized areas where the population faces multiple problems that affect their health. What we do in these sites is the design and implementation of intervention strategies to improve their environmental health. The strategy we use is Risk Communication (CR), which is a process that seeks to inform the population of the risks they face so that they can do something to reduce their exposure and in terms of risk management. The groups with which we mainly work are children, adolescents and families, marginalized urban and indigenous communities.

We have worked in areas contaminated with lead (Pb) and arsenic (As) by a metallurgical industry and in a mining area. In these contaminated sites a CR Program was created to inform children about the environmental risks of the place where they live and to change behaviors to reduce exposure to Pb and As. Changes in behaviors and knowledge gain in children were achieved, which allowed lowering in a statistically significant way, the levels of Pb.

Children's Congresses: I, II and III Children's Congress "Caring for our great blue marble", held in 2005, 2012 and 2018 respectively. The objective has been to provide information to children, exposed to different risks and environmental contaminants, about the dangers of coming into contact with these compounds.
