gci@uaslp.mxSince 2003 I have been a professor at the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP). My research interests are indigenous languages and cultures, especially oral traditions, language documentation and revitalization (through internet resources), indigenous literacies, and intercultural literature. I also work on issues of culture and environment in indigenous communities, particularly on traditional ecological knowledge and their perception of the environment. My approach is interdisciplinary, as I try to understand culture in/through language, usually through collaborations with local stakeholders. In my current project, we translate and create stories in indigenous languages to promote children´s engagement in literacy experiences in their mother tongue: https://witsi.net/
My teaching and supervising activities are at the undergraduate program in Social Anthropology and the postgraduate programs in Latin American Studies (PELTSC) and Environmental Studies (PMPCA). With respect to management duties, I have been in charge of (or have participated in) a wide range of committees and work groups on curriculum development, employee assessment, Faculty funding, and strategic planning. I am currently our university´s Academic Coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Graduate Program in Environmental Studies (2023-2025).
