Since Javier Vigueras obtained his PhD, he has been working on augmented reality, image segmentation and 3D reconstruction algorithms. as well as simultaneous localization and mapping. Since July 2016, he leads the mathematical education undergraduate program, in which he has mainly participated in the application of e-learning technologies. In 2016, he was also co-organizer of the International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR), the main event on his research domain.

Nowadays, he works on fast stereo image 3D reconstruction, simulation of dynamical systems for both virtual and augmented reality, and uses of mobile devices as communication tools to help dead and blind people to learn mathematics.

As a researcher, he has contributed to:

• The study and quantization of visual errors in image augmentations due to calibration errors in digital cameras, obtaining the best student paper award in ISMAR 2005.
• The automatic simultaneous structure and motion recovery from two views of a polyhedric scene, proposing an approach based on the inter-dependence of planar homographies and the projection of the intersection between the reference planes. This work got the second prize at the Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence 2009.
